How to Adjust the Straps on a JanSport Backpack?

ImageJanSport backpacks really are nice and convenient, aren’t they? For one, they last ages and can withstand almost any kind of torture their owners inflict upon them and then they come in all shapes and sizes to suit with different needs. Nothing is better than carrying a backpack since it contains all your things yet you have both hands free to do other things that need to be done.

However, one downside that all JanSport backpacks (and all other backpacks) have is that they come with straps that aren’t really adjusted to fit individual persons and this is where problems come in. You see backpacks bear weight. Carrying weight on your back will hurt if you do not know how to adjust the straps to fit you. This is why it is important to know how to adjust the straps on a JanSport backpack.

Not adjusting your straps or adjusting them to the wrong length could mean back pains now and back problems in the future. Check out some straps-adjusting tips below and get to work on your own backpack.

To adjust backpack straps

Loosen all the straps first and then the hip belt. Start by putting 10 to 15 lbs. of weight in the pack. The first thing to tackle is the hip belt so put on the pack so the belt rests on your hip bones. Close the buckle and tighten. Check that the paddes parts wrap around you comfortably. There should be about an inch of clearance on either side of the buckle. If it is too loose or tight just reposition the buckle and if that doesn’t help, get a different backpack.

Next step is to adjust the shoulder straps and that is easier than you think. All you need is some patience and below are the steps you can follow. With the pack still on your shoulder, you want to pull down and back on the ends of the straps so you tighten them. The shoulder straps should fit closely so that the weight of the back is against your back to keep the load forward. The straps should not be the ones carrying the weight. Ask a friend to check the straps and make sure that the anchor points are between 1 to 2 inches below the tops of your shoulders.

Last but not the least are the load lifters that are found just below the tops of the shoulders and they should angle back toward the backpack at a 45-degree angle. Make sure they fit snugly and are not too tight because doing so will cause a gap to form between the shoulder straps and your shoulders and that will be uncomfortable for you.

Check it in the mirror

So that is how to adjust the straps no a Jansport backpack and as you can see, it is not at all that difficult. Backpacks dangling on long straps may look cool but you will just be doing damage to your back and that is not cool at all. Nevertheless, for you find to find out that you do it well, check it in the mirror!
